Kristi Brown

PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Kristi received her BS in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC. She began her practice of PT with an emphasis on pediatrics and has worked nearly exclusively with pediatric population since graduating over 30 years ago. Soon after graduation, she worked in school and home settings with pediatric caseloads in small towns in the southern Washington State area. After moving to NC in 1991, she began working with pediatric population exclusively in outpatient, in-home and center-based settings. She has treated patients with wide varieties of diagnoses including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, in-utero/intra-cranial hemorrhage, spinal muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy, Down Syndrome, pre- and post-selective dorsal rhizotomy and gross motor development impacts as related to premature birth. She spent several years specializing in treating preschool age children who have gross motor impairments related to visual impairments. She was certified in Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT) in 1993 in St Lois, MO with Linda Caldwell, PT. She has also been trained in using myofascial release and PNF patterns in restoring/gaining gross motor function. Kristi believes in having fun and being creative to engage her patients in gross motor challenges. Gross motor skills are best learned and retained through functional play. Having families and caregivers involved with skill acquisition and follow through with activities is imperative to achieving targeted gross motor goals. Kristi and her husband have 2 young adult children. When not working as a PT, Kristi enjoys spending time with her family, dogs and horses.
